The high-stakes Feast or Fired match is a thrilling spectacle, offering both immense rewards and equally daunting risks. Last week, four wrestlers, Eric Young, Steve Maclin, Eddie Edwards, and Trey Miguel, emerged as the lucky winners of this year's match, each grasping a mysterious case. The tension was palpable as the reveal of their contents loomed on TNA Impact (January 29, 2026).
Trey Miguel was the first to open his case, and fate had dealt him a shot at the prestigious TNA International Championship, currently held by the formidable Stacks from NXT. Eddie Edwards followed suit, his case revealing a shot at the TNA World Championship, held by the dominant Mike Santana.
But here's where it gets controversial... Steve Maclin, a former world champion and two-time international champion, stepped up to the plate. The tension in the arena was palpable as he slowly opened his case. And there it was - the dreaded pink slip. Maclin's TNA career came to an abrupt end, leaving him fired from the organization.
Maclin's departure places him in the infamous company of other talents who met their demise through the Feast or Fired match, including Senshi (aka Low Ki), Curry Man, Sheik Abdul Bashir (aka Shawn Daivari), Chavo Guerrero, Velvet Sky, Grado, Ethan Carter III (aka EC3), and Yuya Uemura.
Maclin, also known as Steve Cutler, has a solid reputation in the wrestling world. His release from WWE in 2021 didn't dampen his spirit, and his success as a singles wrestler in TNA showcases his versatility and skill. With his wife, Deonna Purrazzo, already on the AEW roster, it's an intriguing prospect to see Maclin join her there. The Callis Family could certainly benefit from his experience and talent.
And this is the part most people miss... Maclin's potential value as a veteran presence in NXT or WWE should not be overlooked. His ability to thrive as a singles wrestler could be a valuable asset to either company.
So, what do you think about Steve Maclin's unexpected departure from TNA? Which company do you think would be the best fit for him moving forward? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
