"You have to be smart about it," he explained. "We'll be aggressive when the opportunity arises, but we won't compromise our team culture. We'll consider various factors to ensure the right fit for our locker room."
The Broncos' plan is further bolstered by the presence of young quarterback Bo Nix, in whom Penner has expressed confidence. Nix's performance, including winning 15 games for the team and displaying resilience in the fourth quarter, has impressed the CEO.
"He has a bright future ahead," Penner said. "His work ethic and love for the game are admirable. I'm excited to see his continued growth and improvement."
Penner also addressed concerns about Nix's health following his season-ending ankle injury, stating, "I have absolute confidence in his recovery. The surgery was successful, and there are no long-term concerns."
As the team looks ahead, the focus is on continued growth and development. Penner echoes Head Coach Sean Payton's sentiment about starting fresh and building a "culture of toughness, resiliency, and grit."
"It's a new year, and we have to prove ourselves again," Penner said. "Our goals remain ambitious, starting with winning the AFC West. We won't be satisfied until we achieve that and more."
