RSB Food Drive for Gleaners food bank

So I am taking on the task of starting a food drive on behalf of the club to support the Gleaners Food bank (I am really just flogging myself to the compressor fiasco). As most should know, we as a club try to raise money for local charity yearly. We thought this one would be something that supports close to home and would be an easy thing to ask members and friends of the club to get behind!

What we are asking are for food or cash donations for this local charity. The Food Drive will run through December 10th.

There is a lot of local support needed for this and food drives provide their partner agencies with a variety of greatly needed food items that go directly on their shelves to feed others. Every 4 pounds of donated food can provide 3 meals to a hungry neighbor (IE... 1 can = 1 pound).

Some Facts:

  • More than 720,000 people in southeast Michigan live in poverty.
  •  One in six people in Michigan will need emergency food this year.
  •  34% of households served by Michigan food banks have at least one employed adult.
  •  62% of people served by food banks live in suburban or rural areas.
  •  38% of the people Gleaners serves are children and 7% are seniors.
  •  Child poverty has more than doubled in the past decade; one in four children are now at risk of hunger.
So you may be asking, "Self, what can I donate?"
That's easy. Here are some suggestions and guidelines:

Below are some suggestions of nutritious canned and dry goods that Gleaners uses the most. Please no opened containers, homemade food or expired products, and avoid items in glass as they often break in transit.

TOP 5 NEEDED ITEMS
Canned Fruit (no heavy syrup), Canned Vegetables, Tuna Fish, Peanut Butter (in plastic jars), Healthy Cereal/Oatmeal, Hearty Soups, Stews Canned Spaghetti or Pasta, Beans (black, kidney, pinto, or refried), Canned Meats (chicken, salmon), Pasta, Macaroni and Cheese, Rice, Pancake or Baking Mixes, Baby Food or Formula. Also things like: Personal Care Items, Diapers, Toothpaste and Toothbrushes, Soap and Shampoo, Disposable Razors.

DONATIONS OF FOOD ITEMS CAN BE BROUGHT TO ANY OF OUR UPCOMING CLUB MEETINGS (there is one coming up next Sunday, September 17th cough cough).
If you cannot make any of the next three meetings and wish to donate get with either Headlight (Westside) or Almightys (Eastside) to arrange drop-off/pick up of your donation.

Cash donations can be made directly to the clubs PayPal (rspay@redlinesuperbike.com). Please make sure you Make it a Gift (No fees will be deducted) put "Gleaners Food Drive" in the notes right under the Gift Box.

Please consider the next time you go grocery shopping just picking up an extra can or two of what's on sale to donate. It will have a positive impact on someone's life this year.

If you have any questions or would like to help further, please contact me directly through PM or call.

Thank you in advance for your support and contributions

I tried this last year at the dealership and unfortunately, we didn't get a ton of response but I would like to try again. Hoping you get a good turn out!

Well a ton would be great but we will just set the bar at 200lbs for now lol. If you would like to donate any canned goods, let me know and I can make arrangements to pick up for the cause.

I sent in a donation.
Where would the notice for Gleaners go? I missed that in the process.

Thanks, I found it and I made an adjustment to the post with the rspay@redlinesuperbike.com PayPal account added.

So we have collected 14lbs of food and cash donations of $150.
Let's keep it rocking!
Again, if you cannot make the next meeting, you can contact me directly to schedule pickup. 5lbs per person will make us reach our goal!
FYI- that's only 4 cans! And Kroger has beans on sale for $0.59. So that is a $2.36 donation. Just saying

Steve, if you need to, you can use my shop @ 14/Mound as a drop off. I have an entire mezzanine that is not in use
