Fiat 500 = WTF

Ok I seen one on the road today, WTF! its not much bigger than a smart car and it looks like a PT Crusier that got rear ended. I'm going to have to label this car FAIL! I will be very surprised if Americans warm up to this vehicle at all. As of late I noticed a few other designs that really fit the WTF category. The Volt (seriously all that money and you produced this), Nissan Juke (I have no words), and the new Scion Tc (1984 was a great year, but not so much for car designs) these are just a few. What are manufacturers thinking, MONEY? They clearly are not thinking about what a good design is! If it is about money, you ain't gonna get any with these POS designs. I dont mind the small cars, but why must they look so poor? Why is that that the new technology, hybrids (Prius Im looking at you) or Ev's The Leaf and Volt have horrible designs? WHY! YOu have ushered in new technology with horrible designs my only logical thought is that in all honesty, these manufacturers really dont want to sell them.

Ok my rant is over....

funny how this falls on my 500th post too!

Saw one of those lil' Fiat 500's a few months ago on test. Cute. Might get one for the kid to play around with in the back yard.

AS an aside, all of what the car makers produce today is HIGHLY influenced-directed-mandated by gov't law. Crumple zones, safety bumpers, drivers airbag, passenger airbag, CAFE standards, mpg restrictions, emmisions that must be cleaner than the air it takes in (ok, not, but darn near!), side impacts, tire pressure monitoring.... the list is loooooong, and ALL gov't driven.

It's the reason they couldn't make the Camaros and Challengers look better than they do. They weren't allowed to.

It's hard to design a great car when both hands are tied behind your back.

Now, they want car builders to make cars safe for pedestrians.... for when they decide to cross the street w/o looking both ways first. Hood airbags. Seriously.

Well the Fiat 500 was designed several years ago for the European market, so its just reaching the US market near the end of its life cycle. There is the Fiat 500 Abarth edition that will put more spunk in its step.

I agree the design of many vehicles today leaves much to be desired.

i think my bike is almost as long as the fiat 500 lol. but on a different note, being stationed in germany my first 3 years or active duty small cars are the rave! mainly cause of there fuel efficiency. the price of gas there is about 2.8 euros a liter. equalling to about 6 bucks a gallon, hence why they have trains! even though this car is absolutly hideous, it probably gets great gas milage. and thats what euro car makers strive for. except the more high end vw, audi, etc. ( yeah there high end there when you can buy a bmw for 2k). fiat actually makes a decent dependable vehicle. there standards in germany must meet or exceed 150k miles. german law.

with all of this though ill keep my gas guzzling V8 anyday! wont catch me near that or a smart car. i also own a 2 door cobalt and still feel like the homo factor is up.

Well, can't complain about that! For $11.5k- I'd deal with putzing around in a 3-gerbil go-kart for a few years... then I'd sell it and buy another truck!

I have an SS as well. It's pretty nice. Don't know if I'd necessarily call it economy, though.
