EPA Hearing Mar 29 9am

From AMA email:

Speak up for motorcyclists, oppose expanded E15 sales

The EPA is hosting a public hearing near you next week

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has proposed regulatory changes that would allow year-round sales of E15 fuel, a blend of gasoline that is 15 percent ethanol by volume. This action would put the owners of millions of motorcycles and ATVs at significant risk because the dangers of this fuel are not clearly identified at the pump, E15 can cause engine and fuel system damage to machines not designed for its use and use of E15 may void the manufacturers' warranty.

In addition to allowing public comment on the proposed changes, the EPA is hosting a public hearing in southeast Michigan. Many stakeholders on both sides of this issue will be present so it is important that motorcyclists be represented.

WHEN: 9 a.m. Friday, March 29.

WHERE: Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest, 1275 S Huron St., Ypsilanti, Mi 48197

CONTACT: Email RFS-Hearing@epa.gov if you plan on attending or speaking about the threat year-round sales of E15 poses to motorcyclists.

The National Marine Manufacturers Association is working to secure parking for their members in front of the hotel and have kindly made space available for motorcyclists there as well.

More information about the proposed regulatory change and the public hearing are available on the Federal Register notice.

It is critical that motorcyclists attend this hearing. None of the estimated 22 million motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles in use in the United States is approved by the EPA to use E15 or higher ethanol blends. In additional to being a violation of federal law, using E15 in motorcycles and ATVs can cause engine and fuel system damage and may void the manufacturers' warranty.

In addition, the AMA is concerned that expanding the sale of E15 fuel will significantly decrease the availability of E0, fuel with no ethanol that is needed for older and vintage machines.

The rush to force more E15 fuel into the marketplace by the ethanol industry greatly increases the chances of inadvertent misfueling by motorcyclists and ATV owners-as well as owners of boats, small engines and other machines that are not warrantied for E15 use-due to blender pumps, confusing pump labeling and the lack of any significant consumer education by the ethanol industry or the federal government.

Good stuff mike! Thanks for posting

Question as I am totally ignorant when it comes to blended dues like this. If you are getting premium is that still ethanol based?

The only excuse you have is the one you make.

Yes, you are still getting 10 percent ethanol with premium.
