how do you flash a new DVD drive? Mine's f'd and I need a new one...

I am by no means a computer fixer-upper... If my DVD drives is f'd and I buy a new one via the net, I need to "flash" it before I can install it into the console, right?

My buddy Eric :loser: is the biggest XBOX 360 Dork I've ever meet he mods them and does all kinds of weird crap ill ask him tonight. He's on that I dont need a job or sleep becuase my Mom's basement is the sh*t, so he doesnt wake up till after 7pm. LOL
