There was an article about deals gap in one of the bike mags (sportrider i think). Saying that they have increased the police presence on the TN side and that the speed limit was dropped to increase revenue. The recommendation was to hit the other roads in the area that are comparable without the BS.

Yep, Blount county got a huge grant (for the second year in a row) to up the presence from Memorial day to Labor day.

The State police are the ones that are cracking down something fierce. The Blount county sheriff's normally give 15mph leeway if you are riding safe.

yeah i really have no interest in hitting the gap this year.. spending my money on track days.. all the locals say its just not the same and for once i think they are not just trying to drive non-locals away..

i did hear on the NC side they are not patrolling it though but that's only what 3 miles if that..

Well I'm going down on friday this week, last I heard the Police presense wasn't as thick as last year, so we'll probably hit it early, then go elsewhere in the afternoon. We'll be there until tuesday, so we'll get a good day or two while it's light traffic. I do enjoy a lot of the NC roads also, so there's plenty of options.

Any suggestions on where to ride other than the gap? We'll be down there this friday-monday and are looking for other area's to ride on saturday and sunday. I heard Blue ridge was under construction. Any other suggestions?

I'm there this weekend also, we'll be staying at the Resort at the Deals Gap store, just look for a red/white old yamaha and Indiana plates.

I'd say Cherohola Skyway is about one of the best, long sweepers, you can easily do a constant 55mph for a first time on it. Hwy 28 from the base of Deals Gap past Fontana is a fun one also. Take it until you get past the "Motorcycle Cabin." You'll know it when you see that place.
