I will be there Saturday as well and I think my wife is coming too, so I won't be splitting a room with anyone. This is a great opportunity for people to come out and see what a track day is all about. Let's try to get a group out there and maybe do some BBQing at the same time.

Maia and I will be there for sure on Saturday and Sunday. I'm staffing for Novice both days. Grattan does fireworks Friday night still, right?.
Chris - when are you going to be giving demo's on your new 848? :motorbike2:
I was at Road America Monday and Tuesday - hit 157 mph (personal best) which I apparently stole from my cornering speed - I was a total turtle in the turns....

It's in Elkhart Lake, WI aka the middle of nowhere about 7 hours from here. The AMA Superbike races were there last weekend so STT had a couple of days right after...It's a 4 mile long track and is really fast (and really slow in the chicane...)
Did you know Matt Mladin has someone who personally takes care of his Scorpion helmet at the races? The idea was mind-boggling to me...

We can work it out. If we go out Friday Night, no issues, I'll just come out sometime on Friday, and we can get stuff loaded up and go.
If we go out Saturday AM, I can come out Friday night, load everything up, and either crash on your couch, or pick you up at 5:00am, No biggie.

I did the same thin last year. Took off fro 2 days, didn't tell anyone I was leaving (don't do that, people were pissed at me). I went west through K-zoo, and headed north up the Lake Shore. Up the Leelanaw Penninsula, and back down through Traverse City. Kept going north through the tunnel of trees. Put 980 miles on the bike in 2 days, it was awesome. Have fun, and be safe.

I want to resurrect this thread, and get things firmed up for the group trip out there. It is looking like it is going to be a great time, and a bunch of people are interested in going.
Jane will be there all weekend working with STG. I believe she will be riding all 3 days as well. Chris and myself will be going out on Friday (not sure what time yet). We are driving seperately and both taking our trailers. We will be camping at the track all weekend. We will try and get our usual spot at the end of the lower paddock, so there is room for everyone. I am pretty sure Dave and Nelson are going at least 1 of the days. I believe Webb, and Prostreet1 are going to be coming to spectate. Nate and Bree are coming out to hang out and BBQ as well.
If you are definitely coming out, please post up with a yes, so we have a good idea. I know this will help some of the people that are bringing food for everyone.
Prostreet, if you need some money for the grub, let me know. I will chip in. Everyone feel free to bring chips or other snacks as well. Remember, it is $5 to get into the track. If you get there after 9:00, you may have to wait for them to open the gate, so try and get there before 9:00.
If anyone has any questions about how things work, feel free to ask Chris, Jane, or myself.
Thanks, and hope to see a bunch of people there representing Redline Superbike. :ridin:

I have seen people with Beer before, but usually drinking after the riding is don obviously. If you are not riding, I don't have any issues with anyone having a beer or cocktail, but I would suggest consuming from a cup, so its not an issue.

Dave,
No worries brother. I decided to camp to save some money, and my last few experiences at the candlestone were less than stellar.
I just signed up for both days, so I will be there come hell or high water, and lets hope the high water doesn't happen. As mentioned before, bring whatever you think the masses might enjoy, as this will be a group gathering, and everyone is welcome to whatever I have.
If all goes well, I might have a 2nd bike with me.

I just got off the phone with Grattan raceway a few minutes ago and they confirmed that pets are allowed as long as they are leashed at all times. :) I also called STT and they said that pet rules are imposed by the race track not by them.
would anyone have any objections to having a small redline meeting on saturday at the track. I know there are a couple "probies" that would like to get voted in!

Ok, here's the plan.
Meet up at exit 133 off I-96 at the Micky D's.
Depart at 6:30AM.
If I am reading the threads right with people riding and other things going on at the track it does not look like the grilling is going to happen until lunch.
So, I am proposing the backroads ride out. Taking Grand River to M52 up to Owosso and out 21 to 66 in Ionia up to 44 Belding Road out to Lessiter.
Let me know if anyone is in.

Steve

Hey everyone,
As the weekend draws nearer, I just want to reming everyone that riding starts at 9:00am sharp. If you arrive after 9:00, you will have to wait to gain entry to the track. Try to get there before then if possible. The track opens at 7:00.
Also, it is $5 per person to get in.
PM if you have any questions.
***NOTE*** I was just on the STT forum, and noticed that pets Will NOT be allowed this weekend. I know some of you asked, and normally they are allowed, but not this weekend. Sorry.

The other option is to arrive between noon and 1:00 while it's lunchtime :icon14:

I posted on the RIDES board. If you want (my plan was back roads) exit 133 off 96 at the Micky D's, kickstands up at 7:00AM. I figured with a break stop in Owosso we would get to the track around 10-10:30.

Hey guys! Just a reminder to try your best to arrive at the track prior to 9:00am or after 12:00 noon. I know they like to have a seemless transition between groups, and don't like to stop the flow to let people in the gate. I know this may not be possible for everyone, and thats cool, but please make every effort.
Can't wait to see everyone out there. There is a chance we may be pitting on the upper paddock instead of the lower, so watch the board for updates.

May not be a bad idea, there are some good views of the track. And closer to the bathrooms. I want to pit by some grass, which there is plenty in the upper paddock. I'm trying to give my kids a little bit of a play area, and keep them from running into pit lane.

I have a set of leathers, but don't think they will fit. As far as the bike goes, just need to tape the lights and remove the mirrors in Novice. You can rent leathers as well. I'll bring both sets of mine, maybe you can fit in the 46's. Don't forget, you will need boots and gloves also. We can talk in RO tonight, if you go.

Flip,
Leathers aren't required, so if you have any textile stuff, over the ankle boots and decent gloves, you're all set. There isn't anything too special that needs to be done to the bike either that we couldn't do for you at the track. As for the deal, talk to DemonRR - he was looking to do Sunday and I think you need to call STT sooner than later in case they aren't running the deal any longer. Also, with the holiday tomorrow, you might not be able to get a hold of anyone to sign up as you have to actually call them for the deal.

nathan, bike prep is easy, swap out glycol (MUST!!!!!! do) for water wetter/water or equivalent. gauntlet gloves (over the wrists), leather boots that go over the ankle (work boots are ok, as i over heard them talk about it last time. a 1pc or 2pc leather or textile suit is mandatory. if 2pc, zipper must fasten 360*. tape all lights, remove mirrors, tape plate screws, tape wheel weights and then have some serious fun!!!!!!!!!!
Nate, also give natedog a call. he bought my old 2pc suit i used to wear at the track. he might let you borrow it.

Glycol removal is not necessary in Novice which is probably what Nate would be doing. You could also borrow my 2 piece Joe Rocket gear. The pants might be a little long, but the rest should be fine. It only has an 8in zipper between the jacket and pants, but I doubt they are going to check something like that.

STT needs to reword their site because on http://www.sportbiketracktime.com/policies.html it says:
6) Advanced and Intermediate group riders MUST use water or water wetter or a non-ethyl glycol based anti-freeze/coolant. Approved Poly Glycol brands are: Evans, 7th Gear, Liquid Performance, and Engine Ice. NO AUTOMOTIVE ETHYL GLYCOL BASED COOLANTS ARE ALLOWED.
So it depends on how you read it. I see it as no glycol if you're in anything other than Novice. Believe what you want, but I can pretty much guarantee the average person in Novice is not swapping out coolant.

I know what glycol-based coolant is and that is not what's in my SV (any more). It's a track - they are prepared to deal with any type of fluid spill. If not, they should make it more clear or check that.

nelson, im not bustin your balls or anything. im just sayin oem coolant is not allowed! and they are equipped to deal with a glycol clean-up. but the process takes a long time to make sure its fully removed. you dont want to be doing 75mph+ around turn 1 and have your front or rear tire slide out cause some asshat wrecked there and wasnt using the proper fluids and there was some residual glycol coolant left over. i know that would ruin my day if it happened to me.
what time are you heading out tomorrow?

Bust away David - my balls are huge and can take it! I'm fine now coolant wise - I was just saying that their rules can be interpreted differently.
I am heading out around 4 or 5PM and staying in Ionia. We'll head over to the track around 7AM.

EXCELLENT day indeed for track riding. weather was perfect, a little hot and sweaty in full leathers, but overall a hell of a day :D
Mike (prostreet1), thanks again for manning the grill. those burgers were excellent. i wish i could have another one, im hungry :D
Jon, Jane, and Chris, thanks for carting my ass around the track in intermediate. it helps when i follow some faster people, thats the only way i get better. a guy on an sv thanked me after the last session, he had alot of fun following ME around the track. i guess we are about the same skill level, so it helps. who woulda thought (quiet chris, lol) someone would want to follow me around.

You should have seen the crash in advanced this afternoon, seriously looked like a bike exploded all over the track, we had to ride through the debris and it was tough finding a clear spot through it  The guy walked away, his bike pretty much scrap metal. Today was by far the worst day I have seen as far as red flags having to be thrown. :wtf:

Had a great time out with you guys. Hope I didn't poison anyone..... Would like to put in an honest effort at building a track bike when the budget affords it. Thanks all. :icon14:

Yeah guys, it was awesome having everyone come out to hang out with us while we do what we love to do. Hopefully, we were able to sway a few people to give it a try someday. Chris is correct, today was bad for crashes, but definitely not the norm.
Thanks to everyone for bringing food, cooking, helping in the pits with stands, and stuff. You have no idea how awesome it is to have someone help you put your bike on the stand when you come in. Thanks to everyone for showing up.
It was great to meet the new guys to the board, and put faces with names. I have a few pics, and will post them soon.
Chris will be posting a thread for another track meet and greet soon.

I'll bring some Doritos Cool Ranch.
Hey Everyone,
Thanks for lunch. Thanks to Mike and Lynn for cooking and setting up the buffet and for the burgers, dogs and salad.
The mexican dish that Marc brought was great. I'm not sure who brought the brownies, but they were great also.
The Cool Ranch Doritos didn't even make it to the e-way. They flew off the bike at Pontiac Trail and M-5 and were run over by a truck. So, we had to settle for Naco Cheese that I got at exit 133.
Anyway, great time thanks again. Sorry I had to leave, but my dog was at home and I needed to let him out.
Nice pictures Webb.
Regards,
Steve

Chris, do you know what the guy with the exploded bike did to have that happen?
Where was his wreck, do you know?
Nelson gave me a nice map, so at least I can now tell which corner is which!

webb, i think it happened at the end of the straight into turn1.

Turn 1 could be very ugly.
Hitting that slope, you could be ejected right into that line of trees that form the barrier between the track and that road!
I could see doing 190+ at the end of that straight and then noticing that there is that pesky turn there.
Glad he is ok though.

It happened in the sweeper (between the bowl (8) and the bus stop (9)). From what I heard, he got a wobble and bailed from the bike before the bike highsided. If you take the wrong line through there at speed, it can get ugly.
