View Full Version : Redline Boating Excursion

Hey all,

Just throwing this out there to gage interest. Dave's post earlier about planning some activities got my brain going (I know, scary concept :badteeth:).

Anyway, I know several of our members have boats, and I may have access to my old boat if my ex will let me use it LOL! I was thinking about the weekend of July 11th. Maybe going to Crystal Bay or even somewhere on Lake St. Clair. I will leave that up to the boat guys. I can take 5 additional out with me for a total of 6. I have a 17 ft open bow, so its not that big, but it will tie off nicely to one of the bigger boats.

I have had the itch to get out on the water for a while, and it would be a blast. We could all split the gas, and the folks coming out could provide beverages (this has always been my rule). I will have skiis if anyone wants to do that.

Let me know what the thoughts are. I guess I would really like to hear from the other boat guys before I ask the ex to use my old boat, cause it will probably cost me to use it.

We can even fly the redline banner.

Post up opinions

Jon

Great idea! I'm in for this...we can have a bbq at Metro Beach, take over Gull Island, hang out in Muscamoot, or Art Van's, or just hang out somewhere. I have a 28ft express cruiser.

Boat Whoring 101...this was posted up on one of the boating boards...I find it amusing...

Gas is expensive. The first time out maybe offer a 10 or 20 depending on how far you are going. More than likely the owner will say forget about it, but if you are a regular boat whore you probably should be chumpin up big time for gas.

Determine the greatest amount of beer/drinks you could possibly ever drink. Then bring twice that amount. You never have enough and it's always nice to leave a few behind for the captain. Even if you don't drink, don't even think of showing up empty handed.

Dress appropriately. Non-markings shoes without heels, warmer clothing once the sun sets, skimpy thong bikinis if you are so inclined (speedos are always wrong for men - don't bring your banana hammock on anyone’s boat).

There are no time frames out on the lake unless specifically laid out by the captain. Don't say you need to be home or here or there at a certain time, because it probably won't happen. If you do absolutely need to be back in off the lake at a certain time, it’s probably best not to go. Also, arrive at the boat or the place where you are to be picked up promptly. I usually give 30 minute cushion for arriving guests, but any later than that you will be left on the docks.

You will get hungry. Bring some food/munchies. Bring enough to share a bit.

Don't invite other people on other people’s boats. Unless it's a stripper or something it's usually rude to just show up with extra people.

Help out with lines, cleaning up, etc.

Call ahead and see if they need ice or anything.

Don't EXPECT to be a regular on somebody's boat... and always say thank you at the end.

Don't get lost during the day and make people wait for you because they won't!

DON'T BE LATE FOR DEPARTURE TO THE LAKE!! You are irritating a whole group of people because you overslept or for whatever reason.

Make sure you talk to your hosts! Upon arrival, during the trip, and in between boat trips they are your friends!

Take your daily shit BEFORE you go on someone's boat...
don't ever poop in theirs.

The only thing in the toilette is dissolving toilette paper, which is always available on my boat.

Find a place to dispose of your monthly "materials" if aunt flow is visiting - never assume you can flush anything down there.

Bring cups for the drinks.

Bring ice ALWAYS.

Bring sun block - don’t mooch off the boat owners.

Ask if smoking is allowed on the boat before you light up.

If you break something on the boat, please inform the owner. Don't wait for them to find it and have to ask people who did it. If you did break something offer to get it repaired or replaced. Chances are they'll say don't worry about it accidents happen.

Listen to the captain, NOT the people on the dock. When he wants the lines thrown, he'll let you know.

If/when the boat gets stopped and the sheriff asks a question, every one keeps their mouth shut except for the captain.

Please don't throw shit around boats that could break expensive pieces of equipment.

A good boat whore should never renege at the last minute!! I've had friends that have asked and I had to turn them down because I had no more room, only to have someone cancel at the last minute for no good reason. I ended up going out that day by myself!

Stay seated until the boat is completely docked. Everyone's first instinct is to stand up when we're close but there may be nothing you can do other than get in the way while those with lines are trying to get through.

No illegal substances, on my boat anyway, don't do them, don't care if you do, but not on the boat!

It's always polite that if the captain is taking people to dinner by boat, that it's courtesy to pick up the captains tab.

Just because you pull into the dock does not mean the boat ride is over... a little help cleaning up the mess is a great thing.

Don't mess with the boats stereo unless you’re asked.

Don't smoke on the boat NO MATTER WHAT. You're not going to pay to fix the accident, so just wait.

If the captain says no shoes, don't wear them. Buy your own boat and wear your shoes on it. He's out there to have fun, not clean up after everyone all weekend.

Don't invite yourself on a boat just because there is a group going.

Holler back. I will confirm that I can borrow the dingy from the ex. If not, I will be a boat whore Doc. I will be the best boat whore, because I was a former boat owner. LOL!

Ok you land-lovin bastards, I got the boat for the week of 7/7, and the following weekend. I will have it out on Belleville lake during the week, because my ass is on vacation.

So, lets get this thing planned. I will have myself, and a ladyfriend on my boat, and have room for 4 more. I am willing to meet wherever, as my boat is a breeze to put in and take out. Post up if you are interested in going so we can get a feel for who wants to go. If you want to go out with me send me a PM.

If you have a boat, and want to go, AWESOME! :postwhore2: it up. Also, please read and understand Doc's post about boatwhoring above. Thanks!

And shut the hell up when I need to spin the boat around to back into the slip or turn around in the narrow channel to pull up to the fawkin gas pump in a heavy cross wind.

Belleville has a lake?

Belleville has a lake?

LOL! Yeah. It is actually the Huron River, that is dammed up between Rawsonville, and Haggerty Rd. Its about 7 miles long, and great for smaller inland lake boats like mine. Nice Sandbar for hanging out and people watching (if you know what I mean).

I hope more people show interest in this. I know it would be a bunch of fun.

You guys need to come out to the east side and launch on Lake St. Clair. The weekends out on Gull Island and Muskamoot Bay are a blast. You can BBQ and camp on Gull etc. There's always plenty of people and a good party. If you'd rather cruise, tube, or what have you, there's plenty of room to do that too. There's tons of restaurants and parks. Plenty to do for all types of activities.

Well most likly I'll be somewhere on the lake that weekend anyway so I'm up for meeting up with anyone else that has a boat. Docs idea of Metro Beach sounds like it could be good for everyone with or without a boat. Or I'm always up to party hard out at the bay. Either way I could fit some nonboat owener on my boat if there intrest.

Bufalojump
07-08-2008, 01:49 PM
So, for the non-boating do we have a approximate time and day to meet at Metro Beach?

I haven't been there in quite awhile, but I remember it was always busy.

Did ya'll decide on metro? Sounds like a good idea but the swimming is much better out in the bay....

I had read several points of reference; Gull Island, Lake St. Clair, Metro Beach. Metro is somewhere I know that we could ride too (Non-boating). The others I am not sure of as I have not spent too much time on the water out that way. Now if we were talking the chain of lakes along the Huron River in Hamburg/Pinkney area I'd have some better reference points.

Enquiring minds want to know. Has there been a decision?

I think taking non-boaters on the bay will convert them. LOL. Meet at Metro than do the Moot??

QUOTE=DocThee;5276]I think taking non-boaters on the bay will convert them. LOL. Meet at Metro than do the Moot??[/QUOTE]

One trip out to Muscamoot on a Saturday will convert anyone lol. I would suggest avoiding the crowds at Metro and launch at Selfridge (Hall and Jefferson) or North River Road. They are a bit off the beaten path and especially if you guys want to ride there, you've got less of a chance of your bikes getting messed with. The North River Road launch has the offices for the Macomb County Marine Division, so nothing is getting messed with there. Metro is not as nice as it used to be sadly and is usually more trouble then it's worth. Gull and Muscamoot are due east from North River, so it's an easy drive. Again my :2cents: It's up to Captain Oreo Lover :squid2:

the captain
07-08-2008, 06:03 PM
Well if we are doing it Saturday I'll have to meet every out there. I work till 1 and have a 35-40 minute ride to the boat. 10-15 to remove covers and pop top of first cold one, then 20 minute ride to the bay.

If any non-boaters want to ride with me I can have room for up to 6 people.

I will be meeting Doc at the marina around 10:00 Sunday to get some quick grub, we will be shoving off around 11:30 to head over to Metro Beach. Not sure how much room he has left on the boat, so contact him if you want to go out.

Jeff (Captain) has offered some spots up on his vessel (5 or 6) I believe. The weather is calling for partly sunny with a high of 81 right now.

This sounds like its gonna be a great time, and a good opportunity to hang loose out on the lake. Feel free to call me for details as well.

Ok, now that the shock has wore off, and the hangover is still slightly lingering, I will give my review on my first-ever trip to "The Moot" (Muskamoot Bay).

Met Doc at his boat at 11:30ish, and like any good Boat Whore, I had plenty of beer, and pitched in for Gas. Doc has a sweet ass boat BTW. Met some of the other boaters at the marina that would hang out with us all day. I remember Bill, Jenny, Kelly, Housgay (spelling), and can't remember Bill's gf's name.

Left there and cruised over to Metro to meet up with Jeff (Captain). There were so many sweet boats to check out over there it was sickening. Once we got everybody on the same page, it was off to the moot.

Once we arrived we figured out where we were going to tie off, and spent the next 30 minutes or so getting the boats secured, and anchored (this is very necessary). By this time many boats were already out there, and many, many hot women were everywhere.

About 2:00, the party was in full swing. A conservative estimate would be 300 boats?? Boats all tied off, creating a canal-like area between the two lines. This area is for wading, floating, mingling, etc.... Did I mention that there were hot wmen EVERYWHERE! There were boats as small as 17 ft. up to well over 50 feet in length. Some boats had concert size speaker systems blasting the tunes.

Later in the day some guys got into a fight in the water. (don't be this guy, everyone laughs at you). Its important to bring food for sure. The beer goes down really nice on a hot day.

Everyone unhooks and heads back about 6:00. We went to a nice restaurant on the water right by Docs marina, can't remember the name of it.

I will definitely be going back, and will be seriously looking into buying a boat within the next couple of years. Its definitely something that I miss and love doing, and the Moot is the shiznit. I have been to Gull Island, Crystal Bay, Put-in Bay, but none compare IMO.

Thanks to Doc, Jeff, and Bill for letting me hang out.

Jon (Chaser)

Good to hear you had a good time Jon. The Moot on the weekends is the place to be and you couldn't have picked a better day for it....you probably saw Z-Man's boat with all the speakers (usually has Club 22 or Channel 955 flags on it)..he always the first one out there and parks in the middle...pretty much DJ's for the entire area so nobody has to use their stereos...I would have been out there myself, but I had some stuff going on...def need to try to plan another day...:deathmetal:

Well, I'm not positive as of yet, but I am pretty sure I remember talk of going out this coming weekend, and I know I will be rolling out with Jeff for the raft-off the following one, so I think I see an opportunity. I would contact Doc or Captain to see if they have room.

I'm going to be up at Houghton Lake this weekend for Bud Bash, but there's still plenty of weekends left....I will def be at the raft off on August 9th, so maybe we can plan something for that day...good buddy of mine has a 22' Sunsation and another has a 22' Sea Ray...Sunsations are such bad ass boats..

Cool! I agree, I love the go fast boats, but don't think they are very practical, especially with gas prices. The more I hang out on the cruiser boats, the more I like them. Jeff has a real nice boat as well, with a ton of room, and a huge swim platform.

That has got to be the funniest thing I've heard all week. What a visual...now where is the STEVE IS FRIGGIN' GAY smilie?

And I know you had landscaping to do, there were some that called that morning and said they couldn't make it. After they busted my balls all week to make sure I had spots for them. :loser: They just need to buy me some Single Malt to make up for it. A nice 18 year will do it...:squid2:
