The Aptera will begin production later this year...two models a hybrid at 300mpg and all electric at 120mpg. Detroit better get off its ass or California will soon take over on hybrids...

Looks like the car will be $30K and be produced in CA, close to service centers. Interesting to see what happens.

Yeah, this car is bad ass. I did some research on it a few weeks ago. Great concept.

I just want to see if they can break the glass celing and actually produce this. And when I say produce, I mean mass produce. Not like Jessie James, and less than 20 a year. I want to see 100 the first quarter!

Seriously, if there was a car (no matter how it looked) that would carry 2 people and golf clubs, got over 150mpg, able to go on the freeway, and was less than 30 grand. They wouldn't be able to keep them in stock.

I don't understand why Toyota hasn't jumped on this market.

Oil compaies would probably buy the technology and bury it.

I agree. Even at 100 mpg. Put a 50 gallon fuel cell on it, and get 5000 miles per tank. Get your oil changed and gas topped off at the same time. OPEC would be flipping their turbans for sure.

You got it. I'm not to sure who it will be, but yep, I foresee someone stepping in before this actually hits 1000 units a year.

Because to be honest, with less than 500 a year, it's not truly a production vehicle in my book.

Just my .02

.

Ya never know.
Look at American Bantam.
They and the opportunity to take the biggest friggin vehicle contract in the history of vehicles, and could have blew away Ford, GM and Chrysler,
But didnt want to expand production enough, so they lost 3/4 of the work and later went out.
They just werent interested, sounded like effort.

That may not be necessary.

In the same way that corn prices are being pushed up in futures trading, making ethanol less viable, So is trading in lithium ore, refined lithium, molydenum and other materials and tech involved in the advent of electric car technology.
So we may see this get priced right out of profitability, just like what's happening to ethanol.

Thank you, Free Trade.

Sad, because high production makes new tech more affordable.

That's not a gas saver car. That's just a toy.

I don't know anyone that would be in the market for that one.

But it is a kick ass looking car.

Thats in the "Supercar" class.

Great find though!

True.
Luxury fuel cell/hybrid cars are likley to lead the way in the market, kinda like luxury suv's did. They will be the new status symbol.

Unless sombody does a cheap thru mass production setup like Lee did with the k car, or Hitler did with the VW beetle, it's gonna be a long haul before enoough alternative fuel cars are on the road to help anything.:2cents:

You know, I never thought of it like that. Your totally right! That might just be the way to make it happen, and fine tune the technology.

Now this is what I would love to see!

!

Look at the Volt.
It was expected to be a 30k car and now it's expected to be a 40 k base price.

Even 30k is steep as hell compared to a compact diesel pushing above 40mpg.
and japan's hybrids are under 30k.
