AND IT WAS FREAKIN AMAZING!!!!
The weather could not have been any better. (Maybe a little cooler). I won't go into great detail, because I am sure Chris and Jane will post a nice detailed report with some pics.
1st off, Kevin Schwantz is one of the most personable, and down to earth people I have ever met. Imagine how surreal it was for us to have a 5 time world champion putting your bike on the stand for you when you came in from a session. :thumb2:
The Instruction was awesome. It was one instructor for every 2 or 3 riders, and even some 1 on 1, if you requested it. These guys were all Multi-National champions, and know how to ride and teach. We were all taken to our limits, and maybe pulled slightly beyond. I know that my riding is at a whole new level.
I don't even have words to describe the track that we were on. Road Atlanta is one of the premier courses in the country. Just Awesome!
Ths school was worth every penny IMO, and I absolutely WILL do it again. Like I said, Chris will probably post some pics, and a longer, more detailed review, and I will expand on that.

So um, how much did the whole trip cost, gas, hotel. school etc. and it seems like you're saying I should start saving now for next year?

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't even care after attending :2cents: I was kinda worried about it being worth the money, now I'm just wondering which McDonalds I'm going to get a part time job at this winter so I can do two of them next year :thumb2:
Will work on a trip report, but need to get ready for Grattan sunday first: oil changes, washing the track pig, buffing out the spot where I hit a cone:squid2:, getting the leathers aired out, testing out the new generator, moving my shift lever so it doesn't rub my frame :wtf:, etc, etc.
My new bike was simply awesome, even with Stock suspension (dialed in by Scott (L7)), it handles like a dream ;)

Definitely need to start the planning for next year.
Webb, I'm afraid your bike will be someone's else's bike this Sunday
BTW, Myself, Jane, and Jon were the fastest of the 34 attendees that:
a- had not been there before or
b- are not current WERA registered racers
Do not feel you have to be an advanced track day rider to attend, or have any track experience at all. half of the class had never been on a track before. It is an excellent option to the STT novice group :thumb2:

Glad to hear you had a great time, and Kevin is one of the most down to earth people in the paddock. I have spoken to him several times at the dealer show (he still signs stuff at the Motul booth and hangs with the Yosh guys). I see the suspension worked for you, were you able to run Jane down with the HP or did she pull you?

Yes I would fall into the "no track experience" category ... 30+ on the road riding, but never been to a track as a particapant...would really love to try it at least to my ability.....would like to start the budget for it as soon as I can if it's fairly costly....thats why I'm looking forward to your break down.

Well, they run a pretty tight ship, and we never really had any "open" tracktime to speak of. We got to lead out in front of their instructors, but really only one at a time. Only one mishap both days, and that was a tip over in the gravel trap. Their rules however dictate your class being over if you crash.

I would like to do just that...I have wondered how many Redline folks we could get to attend if we tried getting together at say Stoney Creek to do some BBQ or just hang out and shoot the poo.on a Sat or Sun??..be nice to get everyone together or at least as many as possible at some place other then R.O.??..it gets a little old. I mean we park our rides all winter long and look at them?? Why do we continue to do the same in the summer??? ...well I got off track a little.. .we will talk fosho.

I would start the cost at $2800.00 if you have to use their bike. If you don't have a Suzuki, you will have to use their bike. I would also count on the cost going up next year due to oil prices. I am sure Chris will have a much more accurate figure.
I was at about $2200, before any incidental spending, i.e. dinner, breakfast, blah blah blah, and I rode my own bike. Add $400 for the use of their bike.
I know it seems steep, but as I said earlier, my riding is at a whole new level. At least I think so. My confidence in 10 fold, and my ability to pick reference points, and manage the track is waaaaaayy better. Well worth every penny.

Thanks Jon...I would definitely want to use their bike...would hate to drop mine down there and have nothing to ride up here....but that cost seems realistic...excellant....gonna have to start filling the bikey bank.

$1400 - 2-day class
$100/night lodging (split 3 or 4 ways or more)
$700 gas (split 3 or 4 ways not sure about more)
Tires - probably use half the life
gas for your bike
breakfast is included in the room
lunch provided during the class
add meals on the way down and back,
If we could get a group(s) of 4, we could do it for about $2000, +400 if you wanna ride one of their bikes. Just be careful, if you break it, you pay full retail to have them fix it.
What did I forget Jon?

Yes, breakfast is included in the room, but there will be a mandatory trip to Waffle House. There are two within a stone's throw from eachother and the hotel.
Other than that, you just about covered it. I would expect gas to be higher, but that's pretty close.

If you want to give track riding a try, check out one of the track days at grattan to get your feet wet, sign up for the Novice group and have fun. There are a few track day folks here who you could split the transportation costs with.

The banner was there, but that school is run exclusively by sponsorship, and I didn't want to be "that guy" that pissed off Kevin Schwantz by flying a banner.
Besides that, the trailer was parked down on the paddock the first day, and Our bikes were up by the garages (200 yards away). Nobody would have seen it anyway. We were literally off the bikes, talking with our instructors, and back in the classroom, no time for chit chat at all. I really never thought about hanging the banner. Sorry. I did have the sticker on my bike though, so there will be some pics of that.
