I might be able to make this.
I will be coming from the Battle Creek area so it will be a nice long ride.

One question...What is the Ann Arbor loop?? Can someone kind of map it out so I can get an idea of where we will be riding??
Thanks!!

It would be a wiser idea to not pass the map around to people.
Make people come on the ride and learn it, just the way Nelson did and you are.

If too many people get their hands on the map, one day, too many people will be out there or the police will have a really nice idea of where to park.

Just a thought.

Have fun, ride safe.

I'll see if I can make it out this weekend (assuming I can get a pass from the wife). I still need to make it up to her for being gone at the Keith Code school the last two days. The ride back tomorrow is going to be long and sort of suck, but hopefully I'll be up for some more riding by Sunday.

By the way, VIR is an AWESOME track!

Dave, what's the local meeting spot and time for Saturday? I'm just down the road from ya, in the 19 Mile and Mound area.

So, what exactly is the plan for Saturday then?! Meet up down there at the Shell, ride the loop (how long is it btw?) and then split up? I don't know what the route is going to be, but I was hoping to start something that would last for, I don't know, 2-3 hours... a longer ride with a couple breaks. I hope we won't be out there for like, 15 min. and then split up. But, maybe those living in AA wouldn't be up for it. I say after the AA loop, we shoot up Pontiac Trail, even though it seems to be mostly straight all the way from AA to the Novi area. We could have some nice scenic stops, lots of lakes along Pontiac Trail, and I know there is parking right up to the shoreline for both Walled Lake and Orchard Lake.

Well, yes and no.
We have also done the loop in under 2 hours, getting to the lunch point earlier than I thought we would.

However, generally, we would leave the starting point around 9:30 am and finish our meal by 3 or so.

But it is a nice ride!

DemonRR

we can meet at the Kmart on 18 and dequindre at say 9am. thats right around the corner from me. then head up dequindre to 696 and haul ass to be at the us23/N territorial meeting spot by 10-10:15 latest. riders meetin, then head out by 10:30 the latest. should be back at home by 5-6pm or earlier.

this is the plan. meet out here, leave by 9am, get to the shell gas station out there by 10-10:15. have the riders meeting. head out for some fun in the twisties. our twisty rides usually last for quite a while. he break at a party store for a drink and snack brak, and smoke break for those who smoke. then its back to hittin the twisties. then we end up by the water and have lunch. then head back thru the twisties and head back home.

trust me, you will love the ride and route. ive gone on the AA loop rides about 15-30 times already and have never had a bad time. except for that one time i almost high sided when my front and rear tire washed out on some sand. talk about a pucker moment.

I'll meet you at K-Mart Dave. I'll be coming from the east side so it should be a fun day of riding. I've done a couple of rides out that way buy I'm not sure if I ever went to AA. Lots of good twisties out that way. I can't wait. Looking forward to it. Hopefully I'll make it out to RO tomorrow night as well.

It was fun meeting you all and leading the ride today. Great weather and other than the few dump trucks worth of gravel on Trist, the roads were in good condition. It's unfortunate about Cip's incident, but it certainly could've been a lot worse. I too was impressed how everyone helped out getting him patched up. I was VERY impressed that he didn't let it get him down and continued on the ride, had lunch and headed home afterwards. Most people would've called it quits after a get-off like that. For those interested, it was the corner immediately before Webb's accident, so that road apparently is evil.

If guys go out tomorrow (if Dave doesn't puss out with the sniffles), just be on your toes as there is a fair amount of gravel out there - like I said, Trist was nasty. Looking forward to getting back out there in a week or two.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to let everyone know that regardless of my little spill, I had a great time today, some nice roads, and I especially enjoyed meeting everyone. I'm grateful to all of you for your help with the patching-up process and for all your support. I'm a bit disgusted and disappointed with myself for what I did to the bike, and to me it seems like it was such a stupid mistake, it baffles me how I couldn't stay in the turn and prevent the crash.

Heh, mom nearly fainted when I told her what happened, and she mentioned going to the urgent care, but I'm sticking with just peroxide and gauze, what do you guys that saw the wound think?

Anyways, sorry we couldn't have an incident-free ride, it sucks... so pissed at myself.

Nelson, if you manage to find any places where I can get a good deal on the left fairing and rear piece, let me know. Also, anybody know what the road was called? Just out of curiosity, I wanna google map it.

Lastly, if anybody likes watchin' helmet cam vids and motorcycle video blogs, feel free to check out my youtube page, at www.youtube.com/djcipster4breaks. I'll be posting a video soon describing the incident, and I have a few others one up. I can't wait for my knee to heal up, make the bike look like new again, and jump back on it :D. Heh, maybe I'll ride it like this anyways, till I get some new fairings.

If anybody's going out riding that route tomorrow, have fun and stay safe! See if my tire tracks are still there, heh!

wow, what happened? lock up the rear brake?

sorry about the fall. hope the bike managed out ok as well as yourself.

Jane at STG can get good prices on replacement parts, or scott at L7 motorsports.

other than that, how was the route? much better twisties than the crappy ones in ponitac, huh?

BreaksDJ_07GSXR
05-25-2008, 03:02 AM
Basically misjudged the turn, had a huge semi making the turn from the opposite way, couldn't really see, I sorta got spooked and for a split second lost focus, next thing I know I'm hittin' both brakes and running off the side of the road onto gravel and my bike flops over and barely misses the guardrail. I couldn't have been going more than 20-30 mph when I lowsided but I think it could have been prevented had I leaned more into the turn.

Headlight might have a better explanation, as he had a good view from the back. But, really no need to dwell on this no more. Time to move on!

Pontiac trail doesn't really have that many twisties, the roads today were much more fun to ride on, except where there seemed to be some gravel. Just wish I had a bit more experience before attempting this.

Hey Cip,

Here's where it happened - http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&lr=lang_en&msa=0&ll=42.463866,-84.222307&spn=0.044196,0.11467&z=14&msid=113836483413383391917.00044e051a5f816420534

You can see how your incident was within 1/4 mile of Webb's. I'm in the process of trying to find the fairing for you. I'll post up when I track something down.

Sorry to hear of your fall down.

If it is the turn that Nelson mentioned, then the name of the road is Heeney which then turns into Morton at the next turn, a right hander.

At that corner, you would be 1 mile west of highway 52 (1/2 mile west of the city of Stockbridge) and 1/2 mile south of Morton, which runs east into highway 52.

You are very lucky that you did not nail the guard rail then.

Heal quick and keep on riding!

Cip,

Here's an option for your parts. The new OEM stuff is a little cheaper than I expected.

http://www.oneidasuzuki.com/store/parts-accessories/side-cowling-gsxr600-2006.html

#12-6 2007 LH COVER WHITE (WHITE/RED MODEL) 94485-01H00-YBD - $96
#2-5 2007 LH RED (WHITE/RED MODEL) 94440-01H30-YHH - $190

I would double-check my part numbers, but the prices should be right at least.

You might want to contact this guy for some used stuff: http://forums.13x.com/showthread.php?t=176491

Nelson,

Thanks for the info. The more expensive part is the red piece with the logo on it, and the less expensive one is the white piece that goes around it?

I've also found a site, but I don't really understand the part description. Here:

http://www.mrcycles.com/fiche_section_detail.asp

It says cowling complete, I don't know what the SI stands for, or the ref. numbers, and they don't mention the colors either. But, I'll most likely order from the site you linked me. You say they are easy to install? I'm not much of a handyman, but i think I could get my dad to help me if I get stuck.

Also, any recommendations as to some kind of cream/ointment to use on that gash to make it heal up faster? Plan is to just douse it with peroxide everyday and put a fresh gauze on it, but maybe there's somethin' I can use to make it heal faster.

Again, thanks guys!

Here's where it happened - http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&lr=lang_en&msa=0&ll=42.463866,-84.222307&spn=0.044196,0.11467&z=14&msid=113836483413383391917.00044e051a5f816420534

You can see how your incident was within 1/4 mile of Webb's. I'm in the process of trying to find the fairing for you. I'll post up when I track something down.

There has been some gravel in those areas lately too, especially the second turn.

Neosporin works good. I have always had good luck with that.

Heal fast and ride often!!

You can also try Bag Balm on the more superficial scrapes. Just make sure you get a good close look at the wounds and check for gravel...that's the last thing you want staying in there.
Hopefully you didn't lose too much hair from my tape job!

Yeah, the logo part is the $190 part and the white part is the cheaper one. Regardless of what site you get them from, I'd call just to make sure you get the right stuff. From the site you sent, I think you need part #2 and #18 making sure to get the right color and the phone call would ensure that. They should be pretty straightforward to put on, but if you run into any problems, let me know and I'll give you a hand with it.

Glad to hear you're ok Cip. Heal up quick. It was nice to meet some new people on the ride. Had a lot of fun. There was a lot of gravel on that one road. Othere than that the roads weren't too bad.

Hi everybody......

Don't waste time with peroxide everday. Peroxide is a disinfectant.
Once the initial wound cleaning is complete, it's of no use unless you re-contaminate the wound.

It's gonna ooze so use benadryl cream, and prednizone if you have any or can get it. If not, any otc NSAID will help a little.
Only use the NSAID till the oozing and redness is gone.
Just like poision ivy.

Rider down...

Glad to hear you are o.k. man. Don't let it get you down. Sounds like it could have been a lot worse. Glad everyone was there to help you out and it sounds like you guys made the best of things, got back up and still had a good time.

Two of the guys that went with us on our trip to Niagara got caught up with one another heading back across 6 from Cleveland when a car made a quick turn without signaling. Mike locked up his brakes, swerved to miss the car and took out Robs mirror and clutch lever but they both managed to keep the bikes up. Other than that incident the overall trip was great!

If i hadn't been helping my buddy do his roof all weekend I would have like dto have attended. I saw so many bikes on US-23 on my way home from my buddy's in Howell. :cussing: I'll be sure to try and make the next ride.

Actually, I made the decision not to stick the camera in my helmet during the ride, as I was unfamiliar with the road and tried my best to find a balance between keeping up with you guys and riding at my own pace. Sorry, it would've been some nice footage (at least the part where I was keeping up, heh), but I tried to focus more on my riding... and well, we all know how well that worked, hah. I do have some footage of our Gregory stop tho, with everyone and their bikes, and just me riding to the local meet-up and reflecting back on the crash on the way back home if anyone's interested. Sorry tho, next time I will try to keep the camera on... the crash would've made for some crazy footage tho.
