ATGATT!
Maybe you have read this anagram before and did not really know what it meant?
ATGATT means:
All
The
Gear
All
The
Time.

Given my little mishap a few wks ago, I guess that I might as well go first.
I highsided the bike and ended up with a broken collar bone (the doctor was impressed with how nicely I broke it, right in half, a beautiful job), bruised ribs, bruised left hip, and a compressed spine.

Gear:
Vanson Perforated Jacket including internal armor for shoulders and elbows.
Oxtar TI boots.
Joe Rocket Overpants.
Held Akira Gloves.
Arai RX7 Helmet

Damage to gear:
Vanson Jacket - none. The armor in the left shoulder is still good and the jacket shows no signs of impact, abrasion or wear.
Oxtar boots - none.
Joe Rocket Overpants - marred zipper on impacted side, but otherwise no damage.
Held Gloves - no discernable damage to the gloves. I landed on the left side and the gloves are unmarked. Some of the rivets on the palm of the left glove seem to be flattened by the impact with the pavement.
Arai Helmet - Impact marks and abraisions to the helmet. Helmet was scrapped as it had served its purpose.

I was lucky in that I was wearing my gear.
I landed on my left shoulder/left side of head/palms. I suffered no broken bones to my arms or hands.
My feet were undamaged - period.
I suffered no abrasions to any skin due to the protective gear I was wearing.
I did not lose consciousness and was able to stand and walk immediately after the accident, the sign of a great helmet and a lot of luck.
While painful, I was ok enough for the 4 hours it took before I got to the ER at Beaumont RO.

I am busy recouperating and will begin PT in another wk.
So, ATGATT, while sometimes hot and annoying, is a good philosophy to practice when one rides.

You would think, given how many of these Dr. Dickoff must see, that this would just be another, boring busted collar bone.

But, he showed me the latest X-rays (his office's use the notebook, laptop computers. Very cool really) and showed me the break.

2 pieces of bone, separated by about 1 inch of space. However, the good news is that the bones are aligned nicely and the new bone is already growing where it should be.

Still, it continues to hurt much of the time, depending on how I move.

I start Physical Therapy in another wk, so that should be fun! And I wll be out of Vicadin too!

I wonder how the PT will be?

What?
Speak up, sonny!
Speak into the good ear!!!

You keep riding around on the leaking-oil-on-your-tire bike and you might be in PT with me!

Good post Webb.

I'm always the guy that rides in gear...even on hot humid days. I think I'll keep that habit going...

Even when I'm tooling around...I'm always in a jacket. However, when I had the V-Start, I often rode with a T-shirt and skid lid. Can't figure out why that is way cooler than being geared up. LOL.

If the weather was very nice and sunny, I would ride over to Rec Leisure wearing a muscle shirt, shortie gloves (for protection, you know?) blue jeans and my running shoes.

Well, not smart, but I was working on my tan!

I would always say to myself that it was ok, as I knew that I would not be going fast, it isn't all that far away (20+ miles or so) and I would not be doing any aggressive riding.

Not too smart.

Dude! WTF! I almost spit my water all over my computer when I saw your Avatar, LMFAO!

Anyway, given the mechanism of Webb's injury, I have to agree that the gear did its job. Great post.
