I know they will be redesigning the GSX-R 1k in 09 but ive been wondering what is going to be the big difference.

Lets say I did go to a Busa what would I be losing? Gaining?

If I stayed with my 1k what would be the advantages? I am not saying I plan on getting a busa, but I am going to be trading my bike in for an 09. I have a dealership willing to give me way more then what I owe on it, so I will be getting a new bike in 09.

I am just wondering the 1k vs the busa.

What are the +/-'s for both of the bikes!

Thanks!!

My :2cents: If you go to a Busa, you will be getting a heavier, less nimble, very slightly faster bike with a few more horsepower that you would never be able to realize anyway. We are probably talking a few tenths in the 1/4 mile, with a professional rider. The 1K looks way better. Either way, I see both as way too much bike for the street for me.

I think the Busa might be more comfortable and smoother on longer rides, especially for taller riders. I am sure the Busa guys will have a different opinion.

My :2cents:...... (minus adjustments for inflation, so $0.01326)....

The 'Busa's really designed to be a 1/4 mile drag bike or Utah salt flats Bonneville runner.
And of course, the GSX1300R has more power than any mere mortal will ever need.

The GSXRs (600-750-1000) are designed to be lighter and far more maneuverable. And of course, the GSX1000R has more power than any mere mortal will ever need.

For a given rider skill-level, the GSXRs should run circles around the 'Busa on the track, and especially in the Gap.

You have to determine what you want to do with a new bike.
Both Busa's and 1K's can be taken to the track and neither of them is the perfect bike for track duty.

Canyon carving can also be done by either and rider skill will determine the winner.
How many canyons do we ride in MI these days?

Long distance is much easier on the Busa due to its size and ergonomics.

Speed? Busa.

I happen to like the look of the Busa and it is a more comfortable bike to me than the 1K is, but that might not be true for you.

The Blade loves his new, 2008 Busa (he now has 3 Busa's) and he can run around with 1K's all day long and pull ahead of them any time he wants too. It is just a small twist of the wrist more.

Good luck and have fun choosing!

Then go and see Yaz at Macomb Powersports to buy one.

Neither is a streetbike, both are for riders who have to compensate for something by getting a bike that is far more than they could ever ride to it's potential either on the street or the track. Besides, the Ducati 1098 will beat em both.

That's my :2cents:

:4Q:

I have owned a GSXR1000 too,

Buzz,
You have really two different riding styles on these bikes,
You have a 1k now. What dont you like about it?
If your answer is: I like power but bike is not as comfortable for me, the busa MIGHT be your bike. You really have to sit on it and see how it fits you. Mine is modded to fit me and how I wnat to drive it on the street (longer distances)

I think you need to qualify your statement that the Ducati 1098 "will beat them both".

Im starting to ride on longer rides and the 1k is just killin me. I have just thought the busa is too big for me but im starting to change my opinion.

Im looking for comfort most of all, I really wont ever drag race my bike or trackbike, I want it for almost all city riding and a few twisties here and there. I ride with Jamie almost all the time.

Something to always remember about motorcycles:
You ride them, you do not pick them up and carry them!

Some people always seem to forget that!

Seriously, a Busa has a very different riding position from that of a 1K Gixxer. The Busa is more upright, less hunched over like the more aggressive stance that the Gixxer offers.

And, it is much easier to carry a lady on the back of a Busa (especially if you get a nice seat for her) than on the back of a Gixxer.

I rode to NC last year for a 5 day event in Sparta. I rode down in 2 days of thunderstorms that started 5 minutes after I got on I80 in Toledo. I rode through the mountains of WVA, TN and NC, in the rain, with no trouble at all.

And, once the weather was dry, I was able to pass at will anyone I wanted to, as I blasted up and down the mountains, carrying my gear in my saddlebags.

After riding 5 long days down in the mountains, I rode 750 miles straight back to home. I admit that I was pooped by the time I got home and the last few hours, again in the damm rain, were less pleasant than the first few hours were, but it was not really a problem and I was good to go the next day.

500 mile days on the Busa are not difficult at all.

But, you would have to ride/sit on one to get a feel for it.
Come to RO on Thursday and you can at last look at mine and maybe Walt's as well, if he comes. His is a 2008.
Mine is a 99 as it was what fit me best and I really have not found anything else that was so superior to mine, that I would buy it. Well, maybe the 2008 in Orange and Black.

My :2cents:
Good luck!

I'm not trying to insult you at all here Buzzy, but why did you get the 1K to begin with. You said you want comfort most of all, mainly city riding and a few twisties, and you ride one of the top 5 performance racing bikes available to the public? Neither the Busa or the 1K should be among the top 5 bikes on anyones list if comfort most of all, mainly city riding and a few twisties are their riding goals :2cents:

Sounds to me like you should be looking for a streetfighter, Aprilia Tuono, Z1000, SV1000, etc.

I was going to say the same thing. why not look at a sv1000. Way cheaper bike, way more comfortable than 1K or busa (with busa you still need to change some things to make it comfortable), and you can use the money you save to buy some upgrades!

In addition, It looks to me like you're trying to see which of these two bikes is a better fit to your riding preferences, when I would suggest you find a bike that really fits your preferences.

No offense taken sir! I really liked the way I felt on the 1k, I was off sport bikes for a few years when I bought the 1k in July of last year.

I really don't like the looks of a streetfighter. Ive actually never given any thought to an sv1000 or something along those lines.

I truly do appreciate the input, it has really helped me idenitfy what im looking for.

The twin cylinder bikes are far better machines on the street IMO. I was very skeptical about them at first, until I rode one. They are way less twitchy, and have usable power throughout the RPM band. Personally, I love the looks of the Naked sportbikes, and wouldn't trade my Monster for anything.

I think the SV1000 would be an awesome choice. It was 2nd on my list. Good Luck.
