I know some of you read my post a while back on SBW about me changing careers, and considering Law Enforcement. I applied with the Detroit Police Dept, and recieved a letter inviting me in for an interview. :thumb2:

This will be the first of many. If this one goes well, I will be scheduled to take the MCOLES written exam, and asked back for a second interview based on my test scores.

I am excited, but it will definitely be a lifestyle change for me. Just wanted to follow up, because I had a few people inquire as to what I was going to do.

Jon

That is a big move. I have been thinking about making the same move but I feel I am too old to go into Law Enforcement.

Good Luck!!!

Get tickets in Detroit much? You usually have to do something pretty bad to get pulled over there  Shit, Red Lights are optional in Detroit No

I am definitely not a kid anymore, but I would much rather have a career that I enjoy, or am at least interested in. I have absolutely no desire to work in Manufacturing or the Automotive Industry. I still have some thinking to do, but at least my foot in partially in the door, and I have an option.

Thanks.

I am hearing this alot. I know it's a backward move when it comes to $$, but it's an option.

Well, I will say this, being armed would be about the only way I would want to be in most places in that City

For those of you who are interested in Law Enforcement, you might also consider something on the Federal level.

Border Patrol
FBI
CIA
NSA
DEA
and so on.
The point being that a Fed LEO job has many benefits, including a very good retirement program, something much more than what one will get from a city police officer.

Or, perhaps the MI State Police?

Just a thought.

And Federal time transfers very easily to any other type of Fed job. IE, Border Patrol to Park Ranger or something like that.

Good luck Jon!

I hear ya!!! I have been in the Auto Industry for 14 years now. My brother in law sold his restaurants 2 years ago and is now working for the Bradenton Florida Police Department.

Good point Webb, and this will probably be my route. Detroit is a great city to get your foot in the door. Point being, they have their own academy, and they pay you while you are in the academy. 3 years with Detroit, and I will be able to go wherever I want (if I'm still alive) LOL!

That's cool Jon, I was just wanting to point out that the Feds are looking for good people right now and they pay much better as well.

Keep the faith!
Good luck!

And free protitutes.....

Jon.
Your a shoe in.
But you may be shocked with things you may see that are not appropriate and may need to be kept within the districts.

If so, have your resolve ready, and be prepared to turn the other cheek till your time is in to harvest it on your resume.
