I have been knocking around the idea of getting a track ride (after going to Grattan and watching everyone) as some of the trackrats know and have been looking at a few for sale...some folks have said to wait until the season is over and I should see a myriad of them go up for sale...however I ran across this one http://forums.13x.com/showthread.php?t=184522 on the Wera board and the owner has now dropped it to $2500 Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

What happened to it, to cause it to be a salvage title?
Frame ok?
Forks ok?
Looks nice enough in the pics.
Do you have the time to use it?

Of course, there is nothing wrong with waiting until the winter and seeing what else comes along, but that is up to you.

It is already a 7 yr old bike. I do not know if that makes a difference or not.

Perhaps you can ask him for some nicer digital camera pics, instead of the ones that he has already posted? Some look rather grainy, as from a camera phone or certainly low light.

for 2500.00 snatch it up man. 75% of all track bikes are salvage/rebuilt title bikes. shit, mine is a slavage title bike and runs perfect (except for the oem brakes suck ass!!!!!!). it sounds like a decent deal, especially for the price.

there is also a 2001 gixxer 600 on c/l for sale. 2k or best w/a salvage title. im sure you can get the guy down lower, but it is all stock and you would have to build it up (suspension wise and plastics). i was actually thinking of buying it and putting a few bucks into it and flippin it or keep it as a track bike for redline members/probies to use/rent.

I think it might be a little overpriced for what it is, but not horribly so. As mentioned, get a MANY more high quality pics. Make sure to inquire about the bike's history as much as you can especially in terms of what made it a salvage title (if they know), any engine work, etc, etc. Also, make sure to factor in $300ish in gas (depending on how you do it) to go down to TN and pick it up. Definitely ask about mileage because for seven years old, it could potentially be pretty beaten up depending on how it was cared for. Just my :2cents:

I don't see $2500 as a bad price if it is ready to hit the track as is, has all the track goodies on it, and doesn't have a ton of miles. Find out the mileage, the last time the motor was freshened up, if he has some pictures that were taken during the day, rear shock?. Also, keep in mind it comes with $600 worth of extras with the tires and stands. :2cents: I don't know about people taking pictures at dusk, are they trying to hide something or just hittin the pipe.

I dont think its a bad deal at all. i would find out what kind of rear shock is on it, if its stock you can always have it rebuilt and new internals and spring for a few hundred. Definaltey need better pics. I would not be worried about salvage title. Like dave said 75% of track bikes are and the rest are just no title stolen recoveries LOL
if he takes less than 2500 your in better shape. You can ask Chris what it cost to take a stock bike and transform it, not cheap.

Thanks to all for taking the time to respond. I will look into it a little deeper before taking the leap.....although I will admit I'm a little anxious. I had intended on offering $1900 for it...he appears to be somewhat flexible...if not I will wait till seasons end to see what pops on the net for sale. I'm not in a big hurry but I figure getting you guys involved increases my chances of not buying the wrong bike. Thanks again.

I agree with Chris about the pics. See if you can get some goos ones. Throw $2k cash at him and see what happens. If you do buy it and need a trailer, I know a guy.
