Got my very first dualsport dirtbikey thingie last year, used DRZ400S. Haven't done much trail riding, but I do get out on the dirt roads far away from Detroit.

Anyone else roam the SE or S-central MI countryside on their DS bike?

 I heard a story about a former member riding a wheelie out to Howell that didn't notice when the road turned to dirt and still road it half a mile.

Also rounded a bend on the Ann Arbor loop once and one of the front running riders stuck his head up out of the ditch.

Does any of this count?

I will vouch for this story.....I happend to be behind Eric at the time. Cracked me up, the road had a nice canopy of trees over it and all you could see was his headlight lighting up the trees.
I still laugh about that one!

Arped,

Aura and I just picked up a couple dualies and have been riding the back roads around lapeer for a few weeks now. It's a nice change of pace to slow down a bit and enjoy the scenery, plus go on roads that you would never take the street bikes down.
She is still learning to ride but is progressing very well. If your ever out this way drop me a line and I'll bring the KLR out for a bit.

Does anyone actually know where you live now, Gary?

We just go to Lapeer and yell your name?

Glad to hear that Aura is progessing so quickly and doing so well!

The irony is I just posted about this "Dirt Wheelie" in the bike-nights thread w/o seeing this one. Oh how fun it all was! Thread's hijacked completely now, sorry MillerArp!

Stop at the first cow, and ask it for directions. You should have no problem finding me. :doublefinger:

Well, see, that was the problem.
I asked the piggy and the duck and they did not know where you guys were!
Is that the cow on the left?

My old roomate did that at Toledo bike night 4-5 years ago LMAO
He got sick of seeing Harley's doing burnouts so the retard jumps on his GSXR1000 and rides a wheelie, runs out of road could'nt stop runs out of road goes over a hill and ended up in a picker bush with his bike on top of him... Basterd was lucky he was ok and able to ride the bike home...

Hey Mr. A !

I've still got a lot to learn about DSing, especialy since 99% of my DRZ mileage is non-trail, and a good 50%+ of that is paved travel.

Made it out to the Mounds last July, wiped out 5 times, thanks Deathwing tires!

The GF picked up a used DRZ last year T-day wknd, a few yrs older than mine. Once she got past the "bonding with your new bike" stage, she's/we've really been enjoying the backroads and change of scenery, the canopy-covered roads, the critter sightings (long as they stay outa the wheels!), etc.. And, there's some SERIOUS mansions hidden in them thar hills.
Just wish I knew local folks with big-acreage farm/wooded land I could tool around on and practice my DSing skilz. I've snuck onto a couple big cornfield type things, but was by myself, so didn't push it, figuring it could be days before someone found me if I wiped out and broke my back or something.

Been up Lapeer-way and beyond a few times on the Dr. Z's. Will have to remember to look you up next time! ! !

Im in the same boat with the supermoto. Been ripping it up on the pavement, but other than dirt roads and one trail that is way too sandy for dirt bikes (especially with contisport attacks :) ), I haven't done much on the off road side. I'm taking it this weekend on a camping trip on Torch Lake though, bought an ORV sticker, and plan on hitting some of the local trails up there. They are mostly hardpacked, so it will be perfect for the SM.

you guys might be able to air down those dual sport tires a little to get better traction off road, but you'd need to be extra carefull if going from pavement to dirt and back cauze the wallowing on pavment would be dangerous.

Still...a good small quick fix for some traction for dirt only.

Yeah, it was J's fault I was out there to begin with!
All 5 drops were in loose sand, tho, so I don't feel too bad about that. Well, other than the bruises...

STILL need some real ka-nobbies, but the prob is I end up doing too much paved stuff to really go full-on soft knobbies.
Gonna need to do some research before getting the next set.

edit: Wow, J, that was a year ago already.... more...
