Got a quick question...
Just bought a tank mount and hooked up a video camera for the trip i'm taking to Niagara Falls with a couple of friends next week. Wanted to run it directly to the battery so I would not have to worry about recharging. Tried it this afternoon. Cut the wall charger, wired it in and everything seems to be working pretty well but the question is will it damage my camera wiring it directly without using a power converter?

I would say yes, the power converter usually reduces to 9v and your hooking directly to 12v.

The better method is to use lighter adapter from the battery and then plug the lighter power cord that connects to the camera.
Make sure you disconnect the camera power cord from the lighter adapter when you turn off the bike so you do not kill the battery.

Seems like everyone i've talked to agrees that this would be the best way to go. Thanks for the help. Going to go out this afternoon and try to find a lighter adapter that will work with my camera.

If your camera is a Sony, then you really want to get the Sony adapter.
They have had a habit of wiring the polairy backwards from almost everyone else, so you really need to use the one they sell.
However, get it online to save some pennies.
Good luck!

I don't know how that could be seeing as how the home charger is setup to convert 110.
+1 on Webb's car charger idea, you can use the plug and get an inline fuse.

Yeah do that and strap it to the back of the bike, shouldn't throw the balance off too much, will make for a spectacular video!

I was talking about a spare camera battery. lol  Can't keep an extra bike battery on the back seat. I'd always have to ride 1up and my wife would have to stay at home. Wait a second... that might not be such a bad idea. j/k Amber. ;)
