In my opinion, Gingerman isn't as bad as everyone says. It can be a fun little track. It is hard on tires. It does have seams - but you just need to ignore them. There are tons of places to make clean passes.

And, it was beautiful weather yesterday.

AT1Mike - Usually, you need to be a member of a trackday organization. A lot of people in this area use Sportbike Track Time (STT) - although there are several other options. Google them and you can see their schedule. I think the membership is $35. Although, every once in a while, they don't require a membership to ride an event (yesterday was one example).

Yes, I crashed in turn two yesterday. It was on the second lap of the session, just taking it easy still. I took a little different line than I had been taking earlier in the day. Well, that was a big mistake, I shouldn't have done that. I got my front tire caught in one of the seams that follows the corner and it threw me down hard. I lowsided the bike.

The track is really lousy. I didn't like it from the minute I got there and walked the track. It has two seams that follow the entire track through the corners. Some of the seams are almost two inches wide and deep. Then they just filled them with tar which allows the tire to slip and fall into the seams .

I have heard people say just cross the seams and don't worry about them. Well that doesn't always work too well when you are trying to get around and pass people. There are certain turns that the seams are really close to your line too where you are carrying a lot of speed too.

This track was built and intended for cars. They do not care about motorcycles at this track, only cars. WERA doesn't run here any more either, why do you think that is?

The track is not safe, I felt that way from the minute I saw it. MANY people crash here, very experienced people too, not just newbs.

I could ride on the WSL for free if I want conditions like this.

Yeah, there are a LOT of people that don't like Gingerman. I just don't think it's that bad. I'm still a track newbie - I've only been to four different tracks - each multiple times. Gingerman is not my favorite - that falls on VIR. In fact, Gingerman may be my least favorite. But, Gingerman can be fun if you can get over the seams (which, I'll concede is difficult).

I always hate to see people go down. I had to watch Aubrey go down - I was right behind her. But, I'm glad everyone is ok.

well I wrecked there last year exiting turn 3 right before turn 4. If those seams werent there the track would be easy to ride. Its those dam seams. So yeah when riding the track you can go fast but there's places on the track where you gotta be careful and not make those passes. Nature of the beast I guess. Im trying to think back I think the day I wrecked there were several wrecks like mroe than 15 or so. It was crazy hot, I mean hot.

I dont hate the track, its not my favorite but there aren't lots of track days around our area to pick from. So if it's gingerman so be it.

Do you guys know if there doing the tuesday/thursday test and tune evening days again? For 60$ is a bargin.

what are you all's favorite track that is in the area. one you would recommend to someone like me that has never been.

Grattan is the closest track and is about 2-3 hours away. For your first time all you need is full gear (and if you don't have it, SOMEONE on here should have extra/old you can borrow). You'll probably run Novice the first time you go which is usually just tape over your lights but the rules change so check the STT website. You gotta pay the STT membership fee which is something like $35 but its good for a year PLUS you get a XXXL t-shirt.

So you tow your bike there somehow, I'm sure someone will be more than happy to find you a spot on their truck/trailer if you post up you'll split the gas bill.

You get there, sign in, have your bike checked out, they give a big ol' "Don't be a total fucking asshole" speech to the group, then they split everyone off and the novice people all meet and get split up into groups of about 3-10 depending on the turn out and you have a coach that works with you all day. Then some loser fuckstick will not secure their EZ-up and you will have to take them to small claims court when it damages your truck. The end.

LoL - Annie nailed it on the head there! :)

I don't mind Gingerman at all, the seams are not the end of the world. As others have posted it can mess with your head at times but I am okay with them. After the 2 hour break (which makes me never want to go back on a Sunday), the first lap around I didn't give my tires enough time to warm up and went too hot into turn 11 off the back straight. Pushed me real wide and almost saved it but my front tire hit the sand and I was done for. Got help getting the bike picked up, rode it to the consession area to wash off the sand and was back out for the next session. Couldn't get my confidence up fully but was still able to ride at least and have a decent time, well, until my hip popped out of the socket later in the afternoon, damnit. :dunce:

Definitely a bit sore, found some new bruises this morning and my helmet is toast, but all is good! Wish there wasn't such a large group of douche bags there though... :dope:

The one thing I wasn't happy about is that some how, some way, they allowed 46 people to sign up for "I" group and asked a couple to bump up to "A". Never had this experience with STT before but it wasn't the end of the world, just had a couple opportunities to pass large groups of people at a time.

AT1 you wont regret it its well worth the money spent.

As for tracks I honestly think Gingerman is not bad for a beginner. Its a fairly easy track to learn and there arent many spots that are that difficult. Grattan is a great track, like others said, very technical lots of elevation changes etc. Gingerman is flat and fairly easy its more of a car track so its hard on tires and brakes.

Gingerman Simplified: Turn, squirt, brake, repeat.

I like the variety – and as I’ve said, I don’t mind Gingerman at all. It can be fun. Half the fun of track riding is the diversity in the tracks. Grattan is very technical – and that makes it fun. Mid-Ohio is very flowing and fast – and that makes it fun. VIR has it all – and that makes it fun. Gingerman is a different animal – which changes when your speed picks up – and that makes it fun.

There’s a reason that race series (MotoGP, World SBK, WERA, whatever) ride several different tracks – because being fast at one track doesn’t prove which is the best rider. Each of these tracks has something different to offer and presents different challenges. If you want to be good – you learn to ride as many as you can. Some tracks suit my riding style better than others. I like Mid-Ohio a shit-ton more than Grattan. That said, I enjoy Grattan for what it is. Same with Gingerman. Same with __________ (insert track name). But, that’s just me…
